The hamlet in Winter

I'd been here in the depths of Winter before but never seen the snow we've had the last few days.
our little hamlet, however, looks good in the snow even if you might be cut off from the world for a few days so having a good stock of supplies is essential. There's probably around 10 people all year around and up to 50 odd during the summer months. The closest village is nearly an hour on foot. There's a bakery there and a little grocery store and there's even a little café/tobacconist but they seem to be closed during January.

Walk in the woods

I've been down here for 2 and a half weeks and hadn't gone for any treks. There's been a big snowdrift these last few days and there's more snow than I've ever seen here before. I was starting to get a bit of cabin fever so I went on a wee wander, went for a quick loop around Boutenot. It was -4° celcius and was walking through deepish snow in ill fitting wellington boots so it wasn't the most comfortable walk but the pics were worth it.
Have a gander...

Stonework

Here at the walls before we started...

It's -4 ° here today. We arrived late on Sunday night. The following day there was a fog like in a horror movie. Visibility only a few metres. Then came a snowstorm so we bolted to the nearest big town for supplies before the roads became unpassable. Since then the weather has cleared up but there's more snow on the way tomorrow.
On Monday morning a local farmer delivered

a stère of wood (1m3) which I promptly stacked inside before the weather worsened. I'm going to have to chop it smaller later but that can wait.
A pic of my friend starting to pull down the old mortar.
Easy peasy but the amount of stuff coming off the walls is remarkable. Gonna go to the local charity shop for cheap overalls

The following day was too cold for the mortar to dry so we sat
